RSVP now! The People's Policy: Holding Big Tech Accountable

CSM LIVE next Monday, March 2nd on YouTube - 5:30pm MT (7:30pm ET)

Hey everyone—

Next Monday, I’m hosting a live conversation, “The People’s Policy,” about how we can shape the future of Big Tech accountability at the local, state, and national level. I'd love for you to join us—RVSP here.

Big Tech is lobbying hard at every level of government, pushing to expand data center development, pitching public agencies on discriminatory and harmful algorithmic systems, and trying to dodge accountability for surveillance pricing schemes that undermine fair prices and wages. The need for a real alternative policy vision couldn't be clearer.

Join us on Monday, March 2nd at 5:30pm MT (7:30pm ET) for an online conversation about how we—as communities, localities, policymakers, and movements—can use legal and policy tools to advance a people-first approach to Big Tech accountability.

You’ll hear from speakers working on the ground in Colorado and nationally to hold Big Tech accountable and build a grassroots movement that pushes back on corporate power:

  • David Seligman, Executive Director of Towards Justice and Democratic candidate for Colorado Attorney General
  • Alvaro Bedoya, former Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission and founding director of the Center on Privacy and Technology at Georgetown University Law Center
  • Elliott “El’Bo” Awatt, Driver Organizer with Colorado Independent Drivers United

We'll be livestreaming the conversation on The Maybe’s YouTube channel and will share the recording afterward for anyone who can't make it live. RSVP here to receive the livestream link, and we’ll make sure you get the recording too.

Hope to see you there!

Alix

The Maybe Collective Hi, all - There is too much. Too much news to sort through. Too many topics to track. Too much spin. Too many ways that technology is reshaping our lives. But there is also too little. Too little space to make sense of it all with other people. To ask questions. To meet someone working on the same problem. To find collaborators. To move beyond understanding what's happening and towards figuring out what to do next. We've been thinking about that gap for a while now. Over...

A note from Alix | Video Highlights | Highlights from the Collective Good ideas need company Hey everyone, After spending the last two months working on our Computer Says Kill series, it was hard not to feel the weight of power consolidation in tech. I needed a reminder that for every violent power structure, there are incredible people organising to tear it down. Enter REAL Resistance: a series of global conversations about tech power, accountability, and resistance. We collaborated with...

A note from Alix | Podcast Highlights | Highlights from the Collective The enemy of my enemy is…also my enemy? Hey everyone, Anthropic’s PR machine is working overtime to cast the company as AI’s “good guy.” Just yesterday, we saw Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah cozying up to Pope Leo, nodding along to the Pope’s shallow critiques of AI. The performance of humility stands in sharp contrast to how Anthropic is actually moving through the world. Last week, we put out an episode with Madeline...
